The Lal Bagh Girls' Intermediate College was founded in Lucknow on 18 April 1870, in a rented room in Nazirabad Bazar by Miss Isabella Thoburn.In 1871, the present site of Lal Bagh was purchased. It was the residence of the old Nawabs of Oudh and the legend is that they buried here, with their treasures, a ruby. The name Lal Bagh (garden of rubies) origniated from that legend.
