百喻經 - The Hundred Parables Sutra
Do not learn from the fool who stored milk, do not imitate the man who swallowed salt, do not cling to the empty pleasures of the world.
Once there was a man who planned to host a banquet one month later and needed a large amount of milk, so he wanted to prepare it in advance to ensure sufficient supply at the time. He thought: 'If I pour the milk out from the cow and store it, I will need very large wooden barrels, and I must also consider that the milk might spoil if kept in barrels for too long. Why not keep the milk inside the cow's belly instead, and then take it all out on the day of the banquet? That would be more convenient, and I could enjoy fresh milk—wouldn't that be perfect?'
