A plain bag for a fortune
Eight hidden-identity micro-dramas in four languages, in pairs that hide the same thing in opposite ways: a runaway fiancée in rags, a princess in men’s clothes, a poor girl with a rich girl’s excuses.
The presents in the car are worth hundreds of millions, and Tessa Preston wants them in a plain bag. Her father has asked her home for Christmas after years apart, and she would rather look like nobody in particular. Once they learn who her three sons are, her driver says, her family will be eager to make up. The first episode of A Mother’s Triumph: I Have Three Powerful Sons runs two and a quarter minutes.
Every hidden-identity story hides something from someone, and the secret can run either way. Tessa hides a fortune; the heroine of one of our Spanish picks fakes one. ShortFlix lists 258 hidden-identity micro-dramas, not counting dubbed versions, teasers or series made with AI, and 163 of them are Chinese.
So we chose four pairs, each hiding one kind of identity in opposite ways, from eight channels in Chinese, English, Spanish and Hindi. One series per channel cost us Hail to the Princess, WeTV’s story of a general’s sixth daughter raised as a son: Detective Husband I’ve Never Met, from the same channel, makes the better pair.
The match their families made
Two arranged matches: the real fiancée hides in the first, and a stand-in takes her place in the second.
月野你马甲掉了 (Yueye, your vest has fallen off)
Chinese · 魔女月野 · 12 episodes, four to ten minutes each, two of them about 25 · started 24 May 2022
In Chinese internet slang a vest (马甲) is a second identity under another name. Yueye, daughter of the Yuezhi Group, will not marry Lu Yuchen of the Lu Group, a stranger her grandfather chose. With her bodyguards searching, she dares not use her card or check in anywhere, so in episode 1 she looks like a beggar. She tries to buy a car, is thrown out, and is laughed at when she says the whole street belongs to her fiancé. By the end she has applied to Lu’s to be her own fiancé’s secretary, and a character there remarks that the plot feels familiar.
Serve Me! Ball Girl Heiress, from our app studios guide, also hides an heiress in a lowly job, but there her father set the test. The catch here is the uploads: episode 4’s title gives the reveal away, and the titles of episodes 6 and 10, about 25 minutes each, go back to the beggar. Watch the first five in order.
Blind Date with the Boss (相亲对象是老板)
Chinese · MangoTV Short Play · 12 episodes, seven to nine minutes each · started 28 March 2024
Lin Yulu, new at her job, takes her rich best friend’s place at a blind date, and the first episode’s title names the man she meets: her company’s president. Business Proposal, the 2022 Korean series, has the same set-up.
She plays spoiled to get rejected and calls the seafood stale; when Mr Xu orders a fresh batch, she eats it. He sends clothes and bags to Miss Jiang’s house, her friend’s name, yet the English subtitles later mention Ms Lin, so he may know more than she thinks. Its long episodes play like a short TV series; if you came for two minutes at a time, start elsewhere.
The face he never saw
One woman hid her face to get away from a man; the other hides hers to get close to one.
My Catfish Victim Is Actually My Bestie’s Brother
English · ShortMax · 53 episodes, about a minute each · started 30 September 2026
She lied about her looks to a man she met online, so he never saw her face. In real life, she tells us, he is a cold CEO; online he called her his. When he wanted to meet, she blocked him. Then she spends spring break at her best friend Marlo’s place, and Marlo warns her off the older brother, who has been in the worst mood of his life since an online fling ghosted him. The episode ends on her question: is his name Silas Kingsley?
It is You’ve Got Mail turned around. There, Joe Fox learns first who his online friend is; here she does. Most of the 52-second first episode is her voice-over, and 53 episodes is a long time to keep one secret under the same roof.
Detective Husband I’ve Never Met
Chinese · WeTV · 28 episodes, about four minutes each · started 18 October 2022
What do you do when your husband skips the wedding night? Princess Gong Yiyin, the emperor’s favourite, has not seen Qin Mo, the minister of the Tingwei Temple who excels at solving cases, since he fled theirs. No lie she has told has brought him home. Episode 2’s title has her dressed as a man to go after him, and the cast list gives her male name, Gong Wuyou.
Chinese viewers know the disguise from the Ballad of Mulan, in which Mulan serves twelve years in the army in men’s clothes and her comrades never guess. Here the man she works beside is already her husband. It is a detective series as much as a romance (episode 4 is a murder in a brothel), and by episode 11’s title she suspects that her husband likes men. In episode 17 he uncovers who she is.
Se hacía pasar por millonaria
Spanish · Christopher Martínez · 11 episodes, a minute each · started 8 September 2023
“Les dije que tomaran la tarde libre.” (I told them to take the afternoon off.) Her boyfriend has been waiting in the hot sun, nobody has come to let him in, and she is explaining where the staff are. There are none. A minute earlier she was borrowing from a friend so that she would look like a millionaire, not like the poor girl she is. Her excuse for being out is a shopping trip: clothes for a friend with few means, her donation of the year.
She is the squire in Lazarillo de Tormes, picking his teeth after a meal he never ate. Christopher Martínez, who has 54 series on ShortFlix, says his videos give something positive to society, so expect a lesson. Every episode runs 61 seconds except the 11th, which runs 25.
Millionaire Damad
Hindi · Quick TV · 11 episodes, about a minute each · started 11 November 2025
Damad means son-in-law, and Vardaan has already done all the housework. His mother-in-law would like to drink his blood, she says, and asks his price for leaving her daughter. His wife, who had to take a cab because he was late, wants a divorce, not his coffee. Then a voice begs him to come back and run Singhania Industries, whose falling shares open the episode: he is the son of the city’s top businessman. All in 75 seconds.
Chinese micro-dramas have a shelf of these men: four on ShortFlix have zhuixu (赘婿, a man who marries into his wife’s family) in the title. Like every Quick TV series here, it stops at episode 11, which runs 19 seconds.
Two family tests
Both hide money to learn who loves them: a mother from her own father, a girl from the mother she has not found yet.
A Mother’s Triumph: I Have Three Powerful Sons
English · DramaBox · 53 episodes, most of them one to two and a half minutes · started 11 December 2025

In Mere Anmol Ratan, from our app studios guide, a mother hides a cleaner’s job from her son; here a mother hides her sons’ fortune from her own family.
One plain warning: Marco runs the city by fear, and her voice-over sells him as the sweet boy who brought home every stray dog. From one Christmas dinner, it runs to 53 episodes.
Niña rica se viste de indigente para encontrar una mamita
Spanish · Linis Florez · 11 episodes, finished, a minute each · started 19 September 2024
The title gives the plot: a rich girl dresses as a homeless child to find a mommy. Her offer to women in the street: be her mother, and become the richest woman in the world. The first woman tells her to get out of her sight. The second wants proof of the money, and is sent away. The third calls her a little princess and says the money is the least of it: she would give her love.
It is Perrault’s Diamonds and Toads in a minute: the fairy dressed as a poor woman, testing whoever passes. The first two women exist to fail, so skip it if you want real doubt. All 11 episodes run 61 seconds, and the last is titled fin, the end.
Watch Niña rica se viste de indigente para encontrar una mamita
Fifteen of the 258 started after 1 September, among them My Catfish Victim and Harano Sindoor, from our October picks.
How we picked
Every series here is a micro-drama built on a hidden identity, one per channel. We left out dubbed versions, series made with AI, teasers, re-uploads and narrated stories. We read each first episode’s captions in the original language, or English captions for the three Chinese series, along with their episode titles. We did not count views. Episodes play from each creator’s own YouTube channel.
